Ivan and Melissa Mukulu are the directors of the Sonrise Children’s Home. Their most critical need is the continued construction of the new Sonrise Children’s Village Complex located on the newly purchased 40 acres located outside Kamuli, Uganda.

:: Read Ivan & Melissa's Vision

When completed, the planned facility will house and train approximately 200 Sonrise children and will include residential group homes, director/intern homes, an administrative building, latrines, a cafeteria, a meeting hall, a school, a library/computer lab, a vocational training facility, teacher housing, vehicles, and more. The new school will also provide a badly needed education for the village children of this area.

The new complex is being constructed in a currently uneducated and undeveloped area of the Kamuli District, Uganda. By coming alongside to encourage the people through farming, education, and meeting physical needs, Melissa and Ivan strive to show Christ’s love while restoring their spirits to a sense of hope and future. They are estimating for their primary school training to include up to 2,000 children and a secondary school training to include another 2,000 children.

Construction Status

The first school building, measuring 250 x 27 feet with 8 classrooms is complete.  There will eventually be 5 school buildings for primary school and 5 school buildings for high school.

Some have asked why the school building was started before the children's cottages: it is because we received a designated gift from a very generous donor toward the school; so we proceeded on faith, praying that the remaining required funds would be realized. Sonrise Ministries works tirelessly to execute the wishes of all donors.

Three of the children's living cottages are complete.  Cultivated fields include rice, corn, sweet potatoes, peppers, eggplant, 1 mango tree, and 1 jackfruit tree.

Ivan and Melissa's vision is coming to reality, but there is so much more needed, such as water, wastewater and electrical systems, and access road improvement. Please consider partnering in completing this project to provide a permanent facility, not rented, for the Sonrise Children's Home.
